Sometimes I feel like I’m being standoffish at work, but it’s only because I’m not interested in any of the drama that goes on between the employees there. I don’t want to be involved, because my focus is not on my hourly job. My focus is completely on my goals as an actor. I have the next two weeks off from school, and I am going to use the opportunity to stabilize and improve my daily routine. I’m going to do a thorough cleaning of my apartment, purchase a desk (I just haven’t found the time to buy one yet), set up my work space, and organize all other aspects of my life. When I return to school, I expect to feel rejuvenated and prepared to take on the work load that we’re going to be faced with in the second half of the program.

During the break, I have also made the decision to behave as though I have just graduated from the full program. Come September (if I don’t get in to the Vancouver Acting School’s Showcase) I am going to be on my own, and it will be up to me to establish a routine that will keep me moving forward in my career. Why not use the next 16 days to troubleshoot this routine and to look at what works and what doesn’t. I really do believe that being an actor is comparable to being a professional athlete, and as an athlete I need to work all my different muscles (emotional, memory, physical, sensory, vocal) daily. How I’m going to do that, I’m going to use the next 2 weeks to figure out.

What I want in my life is to be surrounded by gracious, determined, and hard-working people. I want to always feel like I have more than enough time to get everything that I want accomplished. I want to feel heard. I want to feel funny. I want to feel confident. I want to feel like an athlete.

These are the things that I want, and these are the things that I’m going to focus on.

Ever notice that glint behind the eye of a person who is fully self-assured in everything that they do? It’s almost like they know a secret, isn’t it? Well I have made it my mission to learn that secret, and to create that sparkle within myself.

How are you actively making your eyes sparkle?
