I’ve just spent the last 15 minutes looking through the pictures from the 2013 Screen Actors Guild Awards, but with an outlook different from one I might have had in the past. I wasn’t looking at the gowns or the hair, but at the eyes. The eyes of these celebrities (and remarkably talented individuals – lets not forget that most of these people are famous for a reason) captured my attention. I believe that eyes are the windows to the soul, and there were many different thoughts which crossed my mind as I looked at these pictures. Primarily this:

They are just like us (isn’t that the biggest cliche you ever heard, but wait), except for one thing. Vibrations. Here’s what I believe: every person operates on a different vibrational plain, and you attract people and opportunities into your life that are on the same vibrational level as you. If I’m honest with myself, I’m not in vibrational alignment yet with most of the people who attended this event, but the great thing about energy is that you can change it. As you evolve as a person, and take larger and larger risks: your vibrations will go up. As you say yes to change, and do what makes you scared: your vibrations go up. As you lower the volume on the inner critic that sits on your ear lobe poisoning your thoughts with whispers of doubt and insecurities: your vibrations go up. I am on a completely different vibrational plain now, then I was a year ago. I mean, it’s crazy how far I’ve come.

The idea for this blog first came to me after reaching my breaking point one night in January 2012 – over a year ago. I was working as a hostess at a family restaurant making minimum wage (less than $10 an hour), and going further and further into debt each month despite working my (pardon my language) ass off 35 hours a week. I was miserable! On this particular day, I was walking with Greg (my boyfriend) around downtown Vancouver before starting work at 11:30. The shift went from 11:30-8pm, and I looked at the approach of my start time with dread. Then, out of no where, tears began streaming down my face. I graduated from my bachelor’s degree with distinction!! I thought. What the hell am I doing? I felt disgust towards myself for putting my self worth so low that I was about to trade  in my entire day for less than $80.00. Something had to change. Then the idea for this website came into my head… a droplet of colour splashed onto a gray fog. What if I created a blog, where I tested out the principles of various self-help books. I’m sure I’m not the only person who’s skeptical of these principles, I thought.  What if I could prove that they work in real time. Thus this blog was born. I started playing with the layout and wrote a few blog posts that I deleted afterwards. I was afraid to make my voice known to the world. Then, after a month and a half of stalling I decided to jump and just go for it.

Because I had the courage to press “publish” on that first day, my life really has changed. Maybe I won’t meet my goal of making $7,000 in two days (I don’t know if you’ve noticed that my countdown has almost expired), but there are so many other things that I have to be thankful for. I would like to, very quickly, take a moment to acknowledge some of the changes that have occurred in my life since starting this blog:

  1. I graduated from Vancouver Acting School’s Intensive Program
  2. I completed P90X twice
  3. I left the restaurant industry, and got a job working part-time working as a receptionist at a gym.
  4. I got a job teaching spin class as a fitness instructor
  5. I got a paid job writing a bi-weekly health and fitness column for a student newspaper.
  6. I improved my voice significantly, and achieved a resonance I have never experienced before. This combined with a new found confidence has really transformed the way I interact with the world.
  7. I became a member of an actor’s goal-setting group that meets on a bi-weekly basis.
  8. I enrolled in a second 6 month acting program that finishes mid-April (then I’m done full-time training).
  9. When I first started this blog I was making less than $1000 a month, now (with full-time school) I make approx $16,000 a month. Maybe it doesn’t seem like much, but It has made all the difference in the world

I also just completed my goal of going 28 days sugar free!! Woo, but more on that later.

Returning to the top… the journey has just begun. It is my goal to be attending these events, and fitting in with the likes of Jessica Chastain and Anne Hathway. My vibrations have been raised significantly over this past year, but lets see if I can raise them even more in 2013. Who knows where I’ll be come December… who knows where any of us will be.

It’s sort of exciting isn’t it?
